Hyundai L&C Produces ‘Recycled PET Deco Sheet’ Furniture Film

Recognized in International Markets Through Transparent Information, Contributing to Carbon Neutrality Policy

Hyundai L&C announced that it recycles more than approximately 1,300 tons of waste PET bottles annually to make ‘Recycled PET Deco Sheet,’ a film used for furniture. According to the company, as a product certified under the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), it also has the effect of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 1,000 tons each year. In 2022, it also received the Low Carbon Product certification, the second stage of the Environmental Product Declaration.

Hyundai L&C explained that, thanks to the EPD certification, it achieved the accomplishment of supplying large volumes not only to numerous major European furniture companies but also to IKEA, the world’s largest furniture company. Because the EPD certification is verified and certified by the government, the product’s carbon emissions could be trusted in the European market, which also led to contracts.

Hyundai L&C stated that it is currently investing 6.21 billion won in an environmental improvement project. It is running the ‘LESS CO2’ eco-friendly campaign and carrying out various activities such as installing solar power generation facilities to improve the energy efficiency of its manufacturing plants. Through these efforts, the company explained, it has achieved an annual reduction of 2,115 tons of carbon dioxide.

Hyundai L&C said, “The signing of the agreement for mutual recognition of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) between Korea and Norway has opened up a great opportunity for companies considering entry into the European market,” adding, “Since an Environmental Product Declaration recognized domestically can be recognized in several EU countries including Norway, it can help reduce companies’ certification costs and strengthen their export competitiveness.” It continued, “This year, we will additionally introduce 406 kW of solar power generation facilities to respond to carbon emission regulations on products for export,” and added, “We will also contribute to the circular economy and carbon neutrality policy through measures such as recycling process scrap.”
