KCC has developed eight additional high-chroma premium 'in-can tinting colorants' and created a new in-can system that can be applied to its existing AI-based mixing system, 'KCC SMART,' beginning distribution to its dealers.
The in-can system is a system in which paint in the color a consumer wants is not manufactured at the factory, but is instead tinted and supplied directly at the paint dealer. By adding four new high-chroma premium in-can colorants each for water-based and oil-based paints, KCC has expanded its range from a total of 31 colors—16 water-based and 15 oil-based—to 39 colors. As a result, the company has strengthened its color competitiveness in the paint market, making it possible to realize the diverse range of colors demanded by various industrial sites and general consumers. Paint dealers that have installed KCC's 'High-Chroma Premium In-can System' are able to reproduce more than 99% of the colors in the various color books that serve as market color standards. In particular, they can reproduce 95% of the diverse, high-chroma colors in the color book from company P, which is known to be primarily used by professional color designers. This figure represents a level of tinting reproduction that is far superior to that of other paint manufacturers. In addition, KCC is drawing the industry's attention through its differentiated tinting system operations, such as granting 'Color Master Club' status to paint dealers that have installed the 'High-Chroma Premium In-can System.'
Ham Seong-su, an Executive Director at KCC, said, "The development of high-chroma premium in-can colorants is significant in that it extends KCC's integrated color technology—built across the full range of industrial paints for construction, automobiles, ships, and industry—to ordinary dealers. It means that color technology performed at the factory level can now also be realized at the dealer level," adding, "To meet the market's needs, where color competition is intensifying and demand for premium colors is growing, we will present even more differentiated competitiveness by applying the newly developed colorants to the KCC SMART system."
Meanwhile, in March 2023, KCC developed 'KCC SMART,' an AI-based color design program. 'KCC SMART' is the culmination of technology that fuses KCC's coating technology with color information data.
