Noroo Paint announced that it has developed an ‘antiviral paint’ that, for the first time in Korea, has been tested and verified directly against the coronavirus.
The ‘antiviral paint’ developed by Noroo Paint’s research institute has completed both testing and verification of its COVID-19 virus-killing efficacy at KR Biotech’s Disease Control Research Institute, a specialized virus-verification agency. It has also been verified for its antibacterial and antifungal functions and effects by the KCL (Korea Conformity Laboratories).
Noroo Paint’s ‘antiviral paint’ is a product that uses a special inorganic material with COVID-19 antiviral properties. Upon contact with the paint, the reduction effect begins immediately, and it has been verified that 99.4% of viruses are killed within 30 minutes. The company stated that the antiviral effect lasts for five years after application.
Until now, ‘antiviral paints’ have been tested with viruses similar to—but not—the coronavirus, whereas Noroo Paint’s antiviral product has been verified for its direct killing effect against the coronavirus. The virus-killing time has also been shortened to 30 minutes. In addition, the company ensured safety by applying strict manufacturing standards and using verified antiviral raw materials approved by the globally authoritative U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA).
The antiviral paint will be commercialized and launched under ‘순&수 항바이러스 V-가드,’ Noroo Paint’s flagship architectural paint brand. Going forward, the company plans to expand the development and application of the antiviral paint beyond architectural water-based paints to industrial paints used in electronic devices and to the automotive coatings field.
