LX Glass, a specialized glass company, has launched Korea's first non-edge double Low-E glass product. It has released a non-edge version of its flagship product, ‘SKN154II.’ The new version has the same thermal insulation performance and optical characteristics as the existing ‘SKN154II,’ but its durability has been greatly enhanced to add the non-edge feature.

The ‘SKN154II’ non-edge version launched this time is Korea's first product to apply ‘non-edge deletion’ technology to double Low-E glass. In the case of Low-E coated insulated glass, the Low-E coating along the edges of the insulated glass generally has to be removed to a certain depth in order to prevent the coating from oxidizing and discoloring or peeling off—a process known as ‘edge stripping.’ The ‘SKN154II’ non-edge version developed by LX Glass is characterized by greatly enhanced coating durability and stability, so that no discoloration or peeling of the coating occurs even when the edge stripping process is omitted. In addition, because the ‘edge stripping’ step—which is essential in the insulated glass manufacturing process—can be omitted, it contributes to improved processing convenience and productivity. Furthermore, the enhanced durability minimizes damage during processing and enables long-term storage of the product. Until now, the non-edge feature had been applied only to single Low-E glass, but this is the first time in the world that LX Glass has applied non-edge technology to high-performance double Low-E glass.

‘SKN154II’ boasts top-level thermal insulation performance, with a thermal transmittance (U-value) of 0.97 W/㎡K based on 26㎜ insulated glass. Double Low-E glass products maximize the insulation effect and provide solar shading by applying two layers of silver coating to minimize heat transfer. This makes it effective in saving heating and cooling energy, and it is expected to see strong demand in a market where energy efficiency is increasingly emphasized, such as the recent mandating of Zero Energy Building (ZEB) certification. In addition, ‘SKN154II’ has a reflectance of 18%, making it a product with low-reflectance characteristics while maintaining outstanding thermal insulation performance. Generally, raising the insulation performance of Low-E glass also increases its reflectance, but ‘SKN154II’ is an innovative product that offers enhanced insulation performance together with low reflectance. This meets Seoul's glass curtain wall guidelines and serves as an even more important factor at construction sites where the use of high-reflectance glass is being avoided due to recent light pollution concerns.
