As the government has rolled out a phased roadmap to reduce single-use products, the use of plastic umbrella bags will be banned at government offices starting in 2020 and at large stores starting in 2022. Amid this trend, Lee&B (CEO Lee Heon-guk), an eco-friendly startup, is drawing attention by unveiling a domestically manufactured, eco-friendly 'Umbrella Rainwater Remover' that combines economy, efficiency, and environmental friendliness.
The 'Umbrella Rainwater Remover' is a substitute for umbrella wrapping machines aimed at reducing single-use plastic, and it is currently installed and in use mainly at government offices and public facilities. Lee&B's 'Umbrella Rainwater Remover' is made of genuine POSCO stainless steel plate with strong corrosion resistance, allowing semi-permanent use, and its strengths include removing water with a microfiber mat as well as being easy to separate from the main body for washing. In particular, it is made through an eco-friendly manufacturing process with no environmental pollution at all, using a sewing-based bonding method (with a cover) rather than chemical adhesives that are harmful to the human body. The product has been supplied to Starbucks Korea, the Korea Rural Community Corporation, Gangjin County Office, the Chungbuk Education and Culture Center, and Costco Korea, among others.
A Lee&B official stated, "Due to domestic environmental issues, the umbrella rainwater remover is drawing great attention as a way to replace single-use plastic umbrella bags," adding, "Having received a patent application for its eco-friendly manufacturing method and recognition for its design, it is being supplied to large government offices, public facilities, buildings, hospitals, and more."
