Heerim Architects & Engineers (Heerim), together with modular manufacturing specialist Yuchang, is launching 'MINO,' a new brand of modular architecture set to lead the future of the construction industry.
'MINO' is a portmanteau of Modular Innovation, born out of a vision to innovate the building supply system, enrich the modular construction experience, and pioneer a sustainable modular construction market. In particular, the newly launched 'MINO Resort Villa' applies a spatial module system tailored to the characteristics of a resort. Through a structural system optimized for spatial modules, it maximizes efficiency in the construction process and maintains a stable structure, thereby increasing construction speed and reducing costs. In addition, an ultra-thin envelope system utilizing vacuum insulation was developed and a dry-floor heating system was introduced to enhance spatial efficiency and comfort. This overcomes the limitations of restrictive modular construction, securing a 4m-wide interior space and a 3.3m ceiling height to create a more spacious environment.
Furthermore, with a modular design that approaches carbon-neutral, zero-energy models, passive and active design were combined to achieve energy savings and carbon reduction. On the passive design side, carbon-reducing interior and exterior materials such as natural timber (Weathertex) and upcycled waste-fiber materials were adopted, and material waste was minimized through module coordination. In addition, high-performance insulation and windows were used to reduce heat loss and maximize the building's energy efficiency. On the active design side, a dry-floor heating system was introduced to maintain a comfortable indoor environment, and a roof-integrated solar power generation system was employed to actively utilize renewable energy. Beyond this, 'MINO' applies an automated smart system to optimize the indoor environment. Through automated control of various elements such as curtains, lighting, and heating and cooling, user convenience is enhanced and electrical energy consumption is significantly reduced. The smart system contributes to improving the operational efficiency of the resort villa and reducing maintenance costs.
A Heerim official said, "After a technology development process to enhance completeness, the first MINO is currently being manufactured at the factory, and it is scheduled to be completed this September and operated as accommodation within a resort," adding, "We expect MINO to present a new standard for modular architecture going forward and to play a key role in leading sustainable future construction."
Meanwhile, Heerim and Yuchang are focusing on systematically establishing the design process for modular construction, building a consistent and efficient design process encompassing structural systems, spatial planning, design, interior and exterior modular coordination, and detail development. 02-3410-9000
