Studio Micon has launched the 'Micon UHPC 3D Tile,' which creates a unique atmosphere through the distinctive texture characteristic of concrete and 3D-type patterns.
The new lineup comprises four variants in total and can be used not only for interior finishing but also as a building exterior material. One item was released per line, ranging from simple to distinctive designs, and because the nature of concrete allows a variety of three-dimensional designs to be realized, the company plans to continuously release follow-up lines.
The 'Micon UHPC 3D Panel' is characterized by its adoption of 3D patterns rarely seen in the existing tile market, adding to the appeal of a space not only through pattern repetition but also through a sense of depth. In particular, another advantage is that an entirely new pattern can be created simply by changing the mounting orientation during tile installation. In addition, compared with previously released concrete panels, it is smaller in dimension and lighter in weight, so it can be installed by ordinary people—so it is expected to draw a strong response from those who want to create DIY interior designs.
The main raw material of the 'Micon 3D Tile' is ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), whose compressive strength surpasses that of standard-strength concrete. Its compressive strength, flexural strength, water absorption rate, and freeze-thaw resistance are all far superior to those of conventional concrete, and it is not inferior even when compared with stone materials such as granite. Furthermore, Micon's surface treatment technology has been added to the high-density UHPC, easing concerns on practical aspects such as stain management.
