‘Hidden,’ a bounce-light LED luminaire from byDeM (CEO Yun Ga-hee), a company committed to delivering sophisticated LED lighting, is drawing attention.

‘Hidden’ is an indirect luminaire in which the LED light source is not visible to the eye. Its proprietary smart structural design keeps the LED source concealed, yet the light reflected off the fixture alone creates an amply lit environment. In particular, despite being an indirect light, it offers outstanding light diffusion and uniformity, along with high efficiency. Whereas the beam angle of a typical flat-panel direct luminaire is only 112 degrees, the indirect ‘Hidden’ reaches 140 degrees—a 25% improvement.

Yun Ga-hee, CEO of byDeM, stated, “It was recently launched and has been installed at a number of sites. We’re hearing user feedback that there is noticeably less glare and no inconvenience whatsoever in daily life, so we assess that the on-site response has been favorable,” adding, “A particular strength of Hidden is that it is an indirect luminaire with excellent performance and stylish design, yet is priced similarly to ordinary flat-panel lighting.”

In addition, byDeM is accelerating its product upgrades, having completed development of a new product that incorporates quantum dot (QD) technology into the ‘Hidden’ model. Using quantum dot materials capable of wavelength tuning, byDeM has developed an LED light that boosts the 480㎚ wavelength while reducing blue light in LED lighting, achieving high color rendering of 90Ra or above and even supporting the body’s circadian rhythm and sleep induction. According to biology experts, if a large amount of serotonin is secreted in the body in the morning through 480nm-wavelength light, this serves as the raw material to activate the secretion of melatonin, the sleep hormone, at night, producing a sleep-inducing effect. Accordingly, byDeM explains that natural sleep induction is possible through a lighting setup in which one receives plenty of bright 480㎚-wavelength light in the morning, and the secretion of melatonin, the sleep-inducing hormone, is promoted starting at night, 14 hours after waking.

CEO Yun explained, “To induce comfortable sleep in the human circadian rhythm, it is necessary to raise the output of the 480㎚ wavelength in the morning to maximize melanopic illuminance,” adding, “Being exposed to light with high melanopic illuminance promotes the secretion of serotonin, the hormone responsible for regulating the body’s internal clock.” 1800-8056
