Lighting made from 100% recyclable polycarbonate
Global lighting company Signify Korea has introduced ‘3D-Printed Lighting’—which has a smaller carbon footprint than conventional metal luminaires—to the Korean market.
‘3D-Printed Lighting’ is an eco-friendly luminaire made from 100% recyclable polycarbonate (a thermoplastic). Because the products are made using recycled plastic, they are not only beneficial to the environment but also have a positive impact on the circular economy. Moreover, as plastic waste has recently been causing enormous harm to the environment, this production method is drawing even greater attention. Since Signify’s ‘3D-Printed Lighting’ uses an LED light source, its carbon footprint is up to about 47% lower than that of metal luminaires. In addition, by limiting the use of screws and the number of components to simplify the recycling process and reduce weight, carbon emissions generated during transport can be cut by up to 35%. Furthermore, it is more energy-efficient than conventional LED lighting, and because nearly all of its components can be reused or recycled, it greatly contributes to the circular economy. In particular, ‘3D-Printed Lighting’ can also be custom-made according to the design the customer wants. Customers can choose the luminaire type, size, color, opacity, texture, and more, allowing them to receive a customization service suited to their space and concept. In fact, the Dutch supermarket chain DekaMarkts commissioned and applied a design for sustainable, connected ‘3D-Printed Lighting’ to match a new store concept. Signify has also created table lamps using discarded CDs and made lampshades using abandoned fishing nets. The new ‘3D-Printed Lighting’ can be purchased through YaHome, an official WiZ Pro partner.
Signify Korea said, “Going forward, we will actively utilize 3D-printed lighting in the domestic market to provide customers with newer and more sustainable products.”
Offering a range of services including lighting interior design and installation
Signify Korea provides a ‘Customized Lighting Interior Solution’ for business customers as well as general consumers. The ‘Customized Lighting Interior Solution’ is available on the official Philips lighting store and operates an all-in-one service ranging from custom lighting design to lighting installation and the building of smart homes & smart stores. This is intended to enhance purchasing convenience for business customers and general consumers and to support reasonable purchasing through various benefits such as special promotions. The solution is operated in partnership with ‘Cnexzon,’ a domestic distributor specializing in IT and digital devices and an official Philips partner. Thanks to this, the number of intermediate distribution steps is reduced, securing price competitiveness and enabling the delivery of differentiated products and services.
With the ‘Customized Lighting Interior Solution,’ customers can receive a range of services from smart lighting interior design proposals to LED home lighting replacement, and can also purchase all products of the Philips lighting brand, including smart lighting, pendants, plant grow lights, floor lamps, and office lighting. In addition, various installation examples—such as residential and commercial spaces and offices decorated with smart lighting—are provided so that customers can reference interiors for each type of space. Special benefits and services for business customers have also been prepared. Upon signing up as a business member, a 10–20% discount is applied per product, and 3% of the purchase amount is given back as reward points. Furthermore, to provide prompt consultation and customer satisfaction, a dedicated CS and sales team for business customers is operated, and various benefits such as special reward points and additional coupons will be offered based on cumulative purchase amounts. In addition, the company is recruiting Smart Lighting Interior Partners to lead new interior trends together with Philips smart lighting and to collaborate on offering differentiated proposals to clients. Once registered as a Smart Lighting Interior Partner, in addition to Philips smart lighting discount benefits, partners will collaborate continuously across the B2C and B2B customer interior service business as a whole.
Kang Yong-nam, President of Signify Northeast Asia, explained, “The newly launched Customized Lighting Interior Solution is an innovative service that allows everything from custom lighting design to lighting installation and the building of smart homes & smart stores to be handled all-in-one on a single platform.” 02-709-1330
