Samhwa Paint has launched 'iSaenggak Water-Repellent Tex,' a water-repellent paint designed specifically for apartment repainting. Water-repellent paint is applied to a building's vertical exterior walls to improve the building's durability. Whereas waterproof paint is mainly applied to rooftops and floors, forming a thick coating film that blocks water from penetrating inside, water-repellent paint is applied to exterior brick, cement, and concrete to impart water-repellent properties, preventing the absorption of snow and rainwater and thereby keeping the interior rebar and other elements from rusting.
Apartment exterior walls are mostly reinforced concrete finished with water-based paint. When it rains, the water-based paint and concrete surface of the apartment exterior wall become wet. Although rainwater does not pool on the wall at this point, prolonged exposure to rain—such as during the monsoon season or a typhoon—causes the rainwater to seep into the wet paint and concrete, resulting in leaks through the exterior wall. Therefore, reducing water penetration from the exterior wall also reduces leaks and improves the building's durability.
Samhwa Paint's new product, 'iSaenggak Water-Repellent Tex,' is an eco-friendly water-based paint whose main components are acrylic emulsion and a high-performance water-repellent agent. It is characterized by excellent water repellency, alkali resistance, and weather resistance, giving it outstanding performance in preventing exterior wall deterioration and protecting buildings. In particular, its high water repellency (R10) prevents damage to a building's exterior appearance caused by rainwater, helping to maintain the building's safety over a long period.
Ordinarily, white water-repellent paint offers the best water repellency, with the function tending to decline as the color becomes darker. In contrast, 'iSaenggak Water-Repellent Tex' maintains high water repellency even in dark colors, making it suitable for apartment repainting, where a variety of colors are used.
A Samhwa Paint official explained, "The new product, iSaenggak Water-Repellent Tex, meets the water-based exterior KS Type 1, Grade 1 standard and is an eco-friendly certified product that complies with Ministry of Environment standards," adding, "It is suitable for building exteriors such as concrete, cement, and mortar, and we especially recommend it for apartment repainting." 1544-5357
