As interest in eco-friendly materials has recently intensified, a green wave is now sweeping through shower products as well. In response, Webs Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of advanced eco-friendly materials, announced the launch of the 'Dr. Shower Head,' a body-friendly filter shower head made of PCTG material that is free from Bisphenol A (BPA).
Bisphenol A is an endocrine-disrupting chemical that causes disorders in the brain, uterus, ovaries, and breast areas as well as the heart and liver. As its dangers have come to the fore over the past several years, it has become known as a hormone-balance-disrupting substance whose use is being regulated. In particular, after it was revealed that large amounts of Bisphenol A are detected in paper receipts, advanced countries such as the United States, Japan, and the European Union have banned the use of receipt raw materials containing Bisphenol A. Canada and France, likewise recognizing these dangers, banned the use of Bisphenol A in baby bottles between 2008 and 2011, respectively.
Korea, too, began banning the use of Bisphenol A in baby bottles in 2012, and in particular, in 2018 the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety introduced a revised set of standards and specifications for utensils, containers, and packaging, prohibiting its use in all infant and toddler utensils, containers, and packaging.
PCTG material, on the other hand, offers excellent chemical resistance, giving it the advantage of preventing cracking caused by chemical substances such as soap and shampoo. The 'Dr. Shower Head' plans to win over consumers with a variety of distinctive features, including a 'sediment filter' that has earned rigorous international certifications from the NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) and RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive), a chlorine-removal ball that eliminates chlorine from tap water, and an antibacterial ball boasting 99.9% antibacterial performance.
A Webs official said, "The Dr. Shower Head came about because we questioned the fact that shower heads, which touch our bodies every day, are still made from polycarbonate (PC) material," adding, "We take great pride in it, as it was created by mobilizing all the expert knowledge and production technology of our doctorate-level researchers in the polymer field."
Meanwhile, Webs Co., Ltd. began its advanced materials business in 2001 and was the first in Korea to develop excellent eco-friendly materials such as WPC flooring for building exteriors and natural-patterned engineered marble. Over the past 20 years, it has grown as an eco-friendly manufacturer that directly oversees the entire process—from planning and manufacturing to marketing—of a wide range of lifestyle items. 051-896-6390
