Marking IKEA's 80th anniversary, past designs are stylishly reborn
To celebrate its 80th anniversary, IKEA is unveiling the first product range of the 'Nytillverkad Collection,' a modern reinterpretation of IKEA's iconic designs.
'Nytillverkad' is a collection that boldly and freshly reinterprets past designs carefully selected from the IKEA archive, reflecting the growing trend of interest in distinctive vintage furniture as more people seek out special, timeless pieces. Going back to IKEA's roots, the collection takes simple yet practical original designs and adds bold, varied colors and new materials to create pieces suited to contemporary tastes. Starting with this first launch, IKEA plans to reveal the 'Nytillverkad Collection' product range in stages over the coming years.
The first product range of 'Nytillverkad' consists of furniture, bedding, accessories, and more that bring fresh, playful changes to IKEA's timeless, iconic designs. The products stand out for their vivid, lively colors, and because they reinterpret designs that represent IKEA, each piece carries its own story from the past. Key products include: ▲the 'LOVBACKEN side table,' a bright-colored update of 'LOVET,' the very first product released with flatpack—IKEA's special packaging solution that packs furniture components into flat boxes; ▲a fabric featuring the 'KRYPKORNELL' pattern, a more lively expression of the 'BLADHULT' pattern that renowned Swedish textile designer Sven Fristedt introduced in 1980 as a cover for the KLIPPAN sofa; and ▲the 'BONDSKARET standing coat rack,' a reinterpretation of 'SMED,' which designer Rutger Andersson presented with a design that was groundbreaking for the 1970s.
