Global home furnishing company IKEA has launched the second edition of 'MAVINN,' a limited-edition collection created in partnership with social enterprises.
First unveiled in 2023, 'MAVINN' is a collection IKEA developed in collaboration with five social enterprises and local artisans in Bangladesh, India, and Jordan. While producing items that reflect distinctive local cultural heritage—through hand-weaving, braiding, and embroidery—the collection provides vulnerable communities with jobs and the opportunity to grow into skilled professionals. Since 2012, IKEA has formed business partnerships with social enterprises to create mass-producible products that generate many jobs, selling them at IKEA stores around the world. The second edition of 'MAVINN' delivers a sense of unity and warmth through vibrant color combinations and repeating patterns. Every product is made using cotton or jute sourced from the regions where the social enterprises operate, adding further meaning. This collection comprises a diverse range of products, including bags, rugs, cushion covers, bathrobes, and pouches. Key items include ▲'baskets' available in a variety of designs such as natural and multi-color options, ▲'cotton blankets and bedspreads' in an array of colors featuring handmade tassel decorations and standout patterns, and ▲'plant hangers' crafted using the macramé technique, in which threads and cords are hand-knotted into knots and patterns, capturing the beauty of nature and the spirit of craftsmanship.
Paulin Machado, a designer at IKEA of Sweden (IKEA's product development and production headquarters), said, "Building on our partnership with social enterprises, we were able to create distinctive products that blend IKEA design with the handcraft skills of artisans, embodying unique local cultures passed down through generations. We are delighted to take part in a project that offers vulnerable communities the opportunity to grow into skilled professionals and supports the economic independence of families and, ultimately, local communities." Maria Vinka, also a designer at IKEA's product development and production headquarters, said, "The MAVINN collection, which celebrates IKEA's 12 years of partnership with social enterprises, conveys to many people the value of handcrafted home furnishing products, and to those who make them, an opportunity to change their lives. We hope that, through MAVINN, people will reflect on the effort and cultural heritage embodied in handcrafted products."
Meanwhile, the newly launched second edition of 'MAVINN' is available at all IKEA Korea stores (Gwangmyeong, Goyang, Giheung, and East Busan), the official online mall and app, and through 'Hej Order,' a remote ordering service available via phone or chat. 1670-4532
