Samhwa Paints Industrial announced the launch of 'In-Plus Radon Guard,' a functional paint that blocks the infiltration of radon gas.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive substance found everywhere on Earth and is known to be a cause of lung cancer. An official at Samhwa Paints Industrial explained, "Korea has a geologically high proportion of granite and a large number of concrete buildings, making the likelihood of radon exposure high," adding, "Since the probability of developing lung cancer from radon is related to breathing in a radon-laden environment, efforts to lower radon concentrations are necessary."
Because 80–90% of indoor radon comes from radon gas generated in soil or bedrock entering through cracks in building floors or walls, it is important to block this infiltration as much as possible. 'In-Plus Radon Guard' is a high-performance paint that effectively reduces the indoor infiltration of radon gas by using an eco-friendly acrylic resin emulsion with elasticity and highly durable functional pigments.
In addition, Samhwa Paint's 'In-Plus Radon Guard' demonstrated a reduction effect of about 90% in tests conducted by an accredited institution specializing in measuring radioactivity such as radon. Furthermore, 'In-Plus Radon Guard' received the highest grade in the eco-friendly building materials group standard (HB certification mark) certification, allows for a variety of color tinting, and can be applied directly as a wall finishing material.
