Naver has announced the launch of 'CLOVA Lamp,' a smart lamp equipped with its AI platform CLOVA.
'CLOVA Lamp' is a smart lamp that automatically reads aloud any book or newspaper placed beneath the desk lamp. When a book is placed under it, the lamp begins reading immediately, without any delay.
A variety of AI technologies have been applied to 'CLOVA Lamp' to enable it to read books aloud. First, using optical character recognition (OCR) technology, which recognizes letters by shining light onto printed paper, it converts the text of any book opened beneath the lamp—storybooks, Korean-language books, English books, and more—into text form. It can recognize any Korean or English text across any medium, including books, newspapers, and magazines. This text is then read aloud in the voice of a child or an adult through 'CLOVA Voice,' an AI speech synthesis technology.
'CLOVA Lamp' also features an English learning assistant function. English speaking practice is possible through Echo Reading, which supports speaking practice by having the user read sentences aloud, and Self Reading, which records the child's spoken voice so it can be replayed in the Naver CLOVA app. When you ask by voice for the English, Japanese, or Chinese expression of a Korean word or sentence, it provides the native pronunciation. The product is priced at 239,000 won.
Naver stated, "CLOVA Lamp was developed with a focus on enabling preschool children who are not yet comfortable reading, lower-grade elementary school students, and the elderly to read books with ease," adding, "It also includes an automatic brightness adjustment feature offered by premium lighting products on the market, as well as four color temperature modes (reading, creativity, math, and sleep) suited to different usage situations." 1833-5387
