CodeSteri, a manufacturer specializing in the development of advanced disinfection technologies and equipment, has launched 'PlaClin,' an eco-friendly plasma disinfection device that removes 99.9% or more of various pathogenic viruses, including the coronavirus.

CodeSteri is a company founded by a practicing emergency medicine specialist at a university hospital in Seoul. With approximately 5 billion KRW in government investment support and a total of five years of research and validation, the company obtained domestic and U.S. patents for its plasma-based disinfection device. In November 2020, it was also awarded the Minister's Prize from the Ministry of Science and ICT in recognition of its contribution to solving public living issues through disinfection technology research and development.

'PlaClin' enables faster and more effective disinfection by spraying air activated through plasma technology together with a hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectant solution. Since no residue or residual toxicity remains after disinfection, there is no need to wipe or rinse, and the disinfected space can be freely entered within one hour of disinfection. The disinfectant-spraying component weighs only about 500g, making it light and easy for anyone to use, and it is equipped with a guiding laser that allows for precise disinfection by accurately identifying the disinfection target point. It is therefore suitable for a variety of applications, including multi-use facilities, nursing homes, general hospital rooms, and ambulances transporting patients with infectious diseases. Because the space can be entered again quickly even after disinfection, 'PlaClin' is being supplied to ambulances under fire departments nationwide as well as to the National Forensic Service.

'PlaClin' has also completed verification of its powerful sterilization effect, obtaining an official test report confirming that it removes 99.9% or more of various pathogenic viruses, including the coronavirus. It has secured safety through U.S. FDA, European CE, and domestic KC certifications, and its technological capability and innovation have also been recognized by its designation as an outstanding R&D innovative product by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Professor Lim Tae-ho, CEO of CodeSteri and a professor of emergency medicine at Hanyang University, explained the reason for developing PlaClin, stating, "Having experienced the 2015 MERS outbreak, I keenly felt the need for a reliable disinfection device that can disinfect surfaces and spaces within a short time." He went on to emphasize, "PlaClin came to be as a result of working day and night to develop disinfection technologies and equipment that can free us from the threat of infectious diseases," adding, "Going forward, we will continue to fulfill our social responsibility of contributing to the health and public safety of the nation and human society through PlaClin."

Meanwhile, 'PlaClin' is sold through various distribution channels both at home and abroad. For public institutions, it can be purchased through the Public Procurement Service's dedicated mall for innovative products in the form of a private contract, one of the advantages of innovative products, while global customers can purchase it through tradeKorea, the Korea International Trade Association's global B2B marketplace.
