In line with the recent advances in robotics technology that have brought a range of smart construction equipment to the field of building exterior painting, KCC (CEO Chung Mong-jin) has launched 'Soopuro Robotics,' an eco-friendly water-based paint optimized for building exterior painting robots.
An exterior painting robot, used to paint the exterior walls of buildings, is automated equipment for painting the exterior walls of apartments and other buildings. It is a piece of smart construction equipment that ascends and descends vertically along wires and sprays paint through four nozzles, enabling painting work to be carried out remotely. It was developed to fundamentally prevent safety accidents among on-site workers and to prevent the paint overspray that occurs when spray-painting building exterior walls.
The water-based paint 'Soopuro Robotics' is a finishing paint for building exteriors that can be applied to concrete and cement mortar, and it is a high-performance product that maintains an elegant appearance for a long time. In particular, it contains a silicone component with high weather resistance and hiding power, giving it strong resistance to outdoor exposure such as sunlight, wind and rain, dew, frost, and dry-wet cycles. Its color and gloss do not change easily, keeping the surface in its original painted condition for a long time. In addition, it offers tailored quality for optimal use in automated painting equipment such as exterior painting robots, and it is a product recognized for its environmental excellence by dramatically reducing paint overspray during work. Under the Enforcement Rules of the Clean Air Conservation Act revised in 2021, carrying out 'spray' painting—applying color by spraying paint onto exterior walls—requires the installation of facilities or other necessary measures to suppress the generation of scattering dust.
A KCC official said, "Compared with the spray painting method, brush or roller painting is less efficient in terms of work and makes it relatively difficult to achieve a uniform appearance. However, spray painting cannot be carried out by scattering dust while disregarding air pollution and citizens' safety." The official added, "The new product Soopuro Robotics was developed as a custom coating alongside the exterior painting robot from the very beginning of the robot's development, and Soopuro Robotics was also used at a recent exterior painting robot demonstration site.
