KCC has once again proven its technological leadership, unveiling the thinnest-film product among epoxy-based fireproof coatings that meet the 3-hour fire-resistance standard.
Fireproof coatings are a key safety material: in the event of a fire, the coating expands dozens of times to form an insulating layer that shields the steel frame from high temperatures, delaying structural collapse and aiding evacuation and early firefighting. The new 'Fire Mask 3005' applies a film thickness of 9.45 mm to columns and beams—the thinnest in Korea—delivering the same fire-resistance performance with a thinner film than comparable products, thereby securing both installation efficiency and economy. Whereas conventional epoxy-based products that satisfy the 3-hour fire-resistance standard typically require an average film thickness of 10–11 mm, KCC has achieved a dramatically thinner film through its in-house-developed thin-film technology. This reduces not only material consumption but also transport and installation time. In addition, the 'Fire Mask 3005' fireproof coating has obtained 3-hour fire-resistant structure certification from the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology. This certification applies to steel-frame buildings exceeding 12 stories or 50 m in height, officially recognizing that the product can effectively protect steel structures under high-temperature fire conditions.
The new product is currently being supplied to a large-scale global data center project in the Incheon area, and its application is expected to expand to sites requiring highly demanding fire-safety design, such as high-rise buildings, plants, and logistics warehouses. It is drawing particular attention because the thin film enhances structural design flexibility and space utilization, enabling efficient material selection from the design stage. Furthermore, with the addition of 'Fire Mask AQ Series,' an organic water-based fireproof coating, customers can now select products that also take installation convenience into account according to the characteristics of the structure and the installation environment. Water-based fireproof coatings dry roughly four times faster than solvent-based coatings, helping to shorten construction periods, and their application is currently being expanded to major industrial sites such as large electronics companies and automakers.
