LG Hausys has launched ‘LG Z:IN Glass Super Light Triple-Pane Glass,’ which dramatically reduces weight by using thinner, lighter glass than before for the middle pane of its triple-pane glass products.
‘Triple-pane glass’ is a product made by joining three panes of glass and injecting argon (Ar) gas into the empty spaces between them. Because it offers superior energy savings and reduced condensation compared with double-pane glass made from two joined panes, it is mainly used in system windows applied to mixed-use residential/commercial buildings and high-end villas. Until now, the domestic glass industry has used architectural glass roughly 5 mm thick for the middle pane of triple-pane glass, but this time LG Hausys became the first in the industry to use 0.5 mm-thick architectural glass developed by Corning of the U.S.—one-tenth the thickness. Through this, the ‘Super Light Triple-Pane Glass’ reduces weight by 30% compared with LG Hausys’s existing triple-pane glass products, allowing windows to be opened and closed with less effort and improving installation convenience at construction sites that had been burdened by the heavy weight. In addition, the middle pane is so thin that it is almost invisible to the naked eye, making it possible to provide an even clearer and crisper view than existing products. Along with this, the ‘Super Light Triple-Pane Glass’ widens the argon gas layers between the panes to lower the thermal transmittance from the existing product’s 0.887 W/㎡K to 0.789 W/㎡K—a reduction of more than 10%—thereby reducing energy loss through the glass and improving insulation performance.
