Komatsu Korea, a company specializing in speed doors—high-speed industrial automatic doors—has launched an ultra-compact ‘Smart Door’ capable of UV air sterilization.

The existing ‘Speed Door’ was originally developed to block the sea winds blowing in from the East Sea toward factories and industrial sites, and it has become widely known as a door that greatly helps streamline work flow within factories, separate clean areas from non-clean areas, and manage air conditioning. Later, its convenience and safety were recognized, and it began to be used not only at industrial sites but also in places commonly encountered in everyday life, such as gas stations, lodging facilities, and car washes. The speed door’s greatest advantage was its opening and closing speed, and while its purely functional aspects stood out, it lagged behind in design and practicality, so its advantages were not more widely utilized in everyday life.

Regarding this, Yoon Hee-jun, CEO of Komatsu Korea, said, “Out of a desire to see the various advantages of the speed door used more widely in everyday life, we developed a future-oriented automatic door designed by bringing together only the strengths of the speed door, the glass automatic door, and the interior sliding door. The ultra-compact ‘Smart Door’ is a further upgraded version of the existing speed door—a new-concept door developed under the theme of the door of the future.”

The new ultra-compact ‘Smart Door’ inherits the smart functions of the existing speed door—such as high-speed opening and closing, airtightness, and safety—while adding a variety of design options so it can also be used for interior purposes, and it was further developed to an ultra-compact size by slightly reducing the existing dimensions. As a result, it can now be installed even at industrial sites where door installation was difficult due to limited space. In addition, by using components independently developed in Korea, the speed door—which had been perceived as expensive compared to other automatic doors—has come close to the price of a glass automatic door, so it can now be used without financial burden by ordinary food companies, shops, and households. On top of this, the addition of LED lighting and a UV-C lamp to the door’s functions provides not only an interior effect but also the capability to sterilize the airborne bacteria and viruses that have become a major concern these days.

An official from the company said, “The ultra-compact Smart Door goes beyond the functions of a door to combine interior appeal and even safety, and we expect it to easily reach consumers as a door that can replace swing doors and glass automatic doors,” adding, “Going forward, the speed door will no longer be just the flagship of factory automatic doors but will be able to be used in a variety of ways anywhere in everyday life.”

Meanwhile, alongside the launch of the new product, Komatsu Korea has also become the first in the industry to begin a rental service, making it possible to use the Smart Door—like an ordinary home appliance—without financial burden and with various benefits. 02-715-0009
