The ‘ACC Forest of Light’ lighting, modeled after the skylight wells that are a signature architectural feature of the National Asian Culture Center (ACC), has been released as a limited edition. According to the ACC Foundation, this lighting is a design work that precisely reproduces, in reduced scale, the ‘skylight wells’ placed throughout the ground-level plaza. The ACC skylight wells are structures that draw natural light underground during the day and radiate indoor lighting outward at night, embodying the core architectural concept of the ACC—connecting the ground and the underground, day and night. The new ‘ACC Forest of Light’ lighting captures this architectural symbolism by sculpturally harmonizing a light-transmitting acrylic structure, a metal frame, and the texture of concrete. In addition, it comes with color film sheets, allowing users to adjust the color of the light themselves. The planning and development of this lighting was carried out in collaboration with the design studio ‘OTC,’ and to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the ACC’s opening, it is produced and sold in a limited quantity of 300 units. Each product is fitted with an engraved plate bearing a unique number, enhancing its collectible value. Kim Myung-kyu, president of the ACC Foundation, said, “The Forest of Light lighting is a design product that embodies the architectural symbolism and cultural significance of the ACC,” adding, “We plan to continue introducing cultural products that capture the spaces and stories of the ACC.”
