Industry, Academia, and Government Collaborate to Discuss Technology and Utilization Strategies

Sharing the Achievements of Localizing Structural Boards, Carbon Storage Effects, and More

Dongwha Enterprise (CEO Chae Kwang-byung) announced that it shared the technological competitiveness and utilization strategies of its structural boards with officials from industry, academia, and government at the "Seminar for the Development of Structural Materials Using Regional Timber in Jeonnam," hosted by Chonnam National University on November 21.

The seminar was attended by key figures from industry, academia, and government—including the Forest Resources Division of Jeollanam-do, the Forestry Divisions of Jangseong-gun and Gangjin-gun, the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute, and the Department of Environmental Materials Science at Seoul National University—who discussed directions for structural material development and strategies for the sustainable growth of the timber industry.

At the seminar, Dongwha Enterprise researcher Park Se-hwi presented the technical features and real-world applications of structural boards. He explained that, in developing structural boards, the company succeeded in localizing building materials for wooden houses that had previously relied on imports, and that by utilizing domestically produced wood-based panel products, it is also contributing to carbon storage effects. Dongwha Enterprise continues to invest in improving the quality and performance of structural boards so that they can establish themselves as a core material for covering the floors, walls, and roofs of wooden houses. Ahead of this seminar, Dongwha Enterprise donated structural boards to the Department of Forest Products and Wood Engineering at Chonnam National University free of charge. Using these, students at Chonnam National University carried out a toy house construction project, and the completed structure is scheduled to be donated to the recreational forest of the Forest Science Institute in Naju. The initiative is regarded as highly meaningful in that it went beyond simply providing materials to offer a hands-on opportunity for future customers to directly experience the quality and constructability of structural boards. Officials from related organizations such as the Korea Forest Service and the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute also personally examined the toy house construction process and the finished product, observing the technical excellence and diverse applications of structural boards. Dongwha Enterprise views this collaboration as an occasion that raised field-level trust in structural boards and built a consensus on expanding the use of domestic timber.

Meanwhile, structural board is a wood-based panel product jointly developed by Dongwha Enterprise and the National Institute of Forest Science in 2023, and it is used as a structural material for covering the floors, walls, and roofs of wooden houses.
