Design, Construction, Supervision & Structural Design

Wood University, a specialized educational institution for wood construction, is recruiting students for its 'Wood Construction Design, Construction & Supervision Professional Course (WBI Course)' and 'Wood Construction Structural Design Theory & Software Practical Course (WDO Course Part-1),' ahead of the courses' opening in February 2026. Sponsored by the Canadian Wood Korea Office, this program is notable for introducing a scholarship system to provide broader opportunities for working professionals and aspiring wood construction specialists.

The training runs from February 7 to May 30, 2026, held as live online lectures every Saturday at 10 a.m. In addition to the live lectures, streaming-based review sessions are also available, allowing students in provincial areas or overseas to participate without constraints of time or space. The WBI Course is a 17-week program covering the full scope of wood construction design, construction, and supervision—including light-frame wood construction—broadly addressing relevant domestic and international laws and standards, and enhancing field applicability through a practice-oriented curriculum. It is structured so that students learn, step by step, the entire range of processes required for actual projects: from basic design to structural planning, disaster-prevention and seismic planning, exterior and insulation details, window and finishing plans, and rainwater and thermal environment planning. The WDO Course Part-1 is a 12-week program providing intensive instruction in wood construction structural design theory and the use of dedicated software, aiming to elevate practical skills to the level of a structural specialist—covering everything from the basic concepts of structural calculation to structural system design, member review, and connection design. Students are provided with the latest version of the WoodWorks Design Office structural design software, supported by Canadian Wood, free of charge for one year, allowing them to practice based on actual project data. The training is open to a wide range of professionals and prospective personnel interested in the wood construction field, including staff at architectural firms, wood construction companies, construction-related companies and engineering offices, university students and graduates in architecture and wood construction-related departments, and public officials. In particular, it is designed to provide practical standards and know-how to young professionals just entering wood construction practice and to design firms newly pursuing wood structure projects, helping them develop capabilities that can be applied directly in the field.

Tuition is 1.87 million won for the WBI Course and 1.43 million won for the WDO Course. For the WBI Course, the first 20 applicants will receive a Canadian Wood scholarship of 500,000 won, enabling them to take the course for 1.32 million won. Course materials are provided as PDFs and additional supplementary materials, and WDO Course students also receive a one-year free license for the WoodWorks Software.

An official from Wood University stated, "As the domestic wood construction market continues to grow in tandem with the trend toward eco-friendly and low-carbon construction, demand for specialized personnel in the design, construction, and structural fields keeps increasing," adding, "Through this course, we aim to cultivate wood construction specialists who can be deployed in the field right away and to contribute to enhancing the technical competitiveness of the industry as a whole."
