Marking Its 80th Anniversary, the Company Leaps Toward Becoming a Global Advanced-Materials Firm
Advancing Paint Competitiveness While Accelerating the Shift to Advanced Materials

Samhwa Paint Industrial is marking its 80th anniversary by changing its corporate name to ‘SP SAMHWA’ and accelerating a shift in its business portfolio toward cutting-edge advanced materials.
SP SAMHWA obtained approval for the name-change proposal at its annual general meeting of shareholders held on March 26 at the SP SAMHWA Ansan plant. This change comes some 60 years after the company changed its name from ‘Donghwa Industrial Co., Ltd.’ to ‘Samhwa Paint Industrial Co., Ltd.’ in 1964. The new corporate name reflects both the intent to carry on the expertise of its existing coatings business and a strong determination to expand its future business into cutting-edge advanced-materials fields such as electronic materials and energy.
Indeed, as part of its business diversification, SP SAMHWA is accelerating the discovery of high-value-added new businesses, including electronic materials for semiconductors and secondary batteries, and energy materials for solar power and offshore plants.
Tangible results have also been following recently. SP SAMHWA has completed the development of high-performance MMB (Melt Master Batch), a core material for semiconductor packaging, and has begun mass production and supply. In addition, the company participated in ‘InterBattery 2026,’ where it unveiled advanced battery-material technologies that maximize battery performance and safety.
Last year, the company concentrated its capabilities on securing new growth engines, promoting the localization of equipment and materials for the offshore wind industry—which is heavily dependent on foreign technology—and signing a joint business agreement to develop next-generation Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) modules. The ‘SP’ in SP SAMHWA stands for ‘Solution for People,’ embodying the company’s direction of becoming a solutions company for its customers and society. Building on this, SP SAMHWA has crystallized three core values—Safety, Smart science (technological innovation), and Sustainability—into its brand philosophy. Its new Corporate Identity (CI) is scheduled to be unveiled in April.
An SP SAMHWA official said, “We pursued the name change in order to maintain the competitiveness of our traditional paint business while accelerating business expansion aimed at securing sustainable future growth engines,” adding, “On our 80th anniversary, we will take another leap forward as a solutions company for people, building on the trust and expertise we have accumulated.”
