Provides Functional Paint

Noroo Paint announced that it cooperated in the conservation treatment of the ‘Weeping Poplar’ on display at the Seodaemun Prison History Hall in order to preserve its historical meaning and symbolism.

The Weeping Poplar earned its name from a story handed down that, in the past, ‘independence activists who had been sentenced to death, unable to see the liberation of their homeland, clung to this tree and shed tears in the final moments of their lives.’

The History Hall said that although the tree fell during a typhoon in 2020, rather than discarding it, they decided to disinfect and preserve it just as it had fallen and open it to the public.

This conservation work was carried out over four days from May 20 to 23 in order to maximize the exhibition effect by applying preservative treatment to the dead tree and to share the historical significance of the execution ground with the public for a long time to come. In accordance with management regulations and reflecting the opinions of the tree deliberation committee and expert consultations, a conservation science specialist registered with the Korea Heritage Service carried out anti-decay and anti-insect treatment of the tree, followed by groove-filling work to prevent deterioration and damage. As part of its ESG social contribution activities, Noroo Paint provided free of charge its specialized paint ‘All New Color Stain,’ which excels at protecting against snow, rain, mold, microorganisms, and insects, and offered technical support for the preservation of the fallen Weeping Poplar.

An official from Noroo Paint said, “We are pleased to be able to work on preserving a meaningful historical resource together with the Seodaemun Prison History Hall, which attracts more than 600,000 visitors a year,” adding, “Going forward, we plan to fulfill our social responsibility by planning meaningful social contribution activities in spaces used by the public.”
