Producing Eco-Friendly Paints
Noroo Paint has become the first company in Korea's paint industry to obtain ‘ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) PLUS,’ a global eco-friendly materials certification.
Based on the European Union's Renewable Energy Directives (RED), the ISCC PLUS certification is a system that verifies sustainability and low-carbon product manufacturing systems across all processes, from raw material procurement through production to sales. With some 140 global raw material manufacturers and research institutions enrolled as members, and a rigorous verification procedure that can take up to eight months, it is regarded as a highly credible eco-friendly certification.
Noroo Paint obtained the certification by having its eco-friendly acrylic paint production system verified, in which conventional petroleum-based styrene is replaced with styrene produced from plant-based raw materials and pyrolysis oil derived from waste plastics.
Having secured certification for the production system of all paints made with the input of eco-friendly styrene, the company can accelerate its transition to a circular economy that reuses resources and, based on clear Chain of Custody (CoC) and traceability, bring sustainability to its supply system.
Since declaring its commitment to ESG management, Noroo Paint has continued to unveil sustainable, eco-friendly, gap-widening technologies—including Korea's first USDA-certified bio paint—leading the eco-friendly coatings market. In addition, following the launch of a recycled coating made from waste automobile windshields, this year the company obtained Recycled Content Verification for its ‘steel recycling anti-corrosion coating’ from Intertek, the UK-based testing, inspection, and certification body and one of the largest in the world, thereby building a resource-circulation ecosystem and strengthening its competitiveness.
