A product that applies beautiful, slip-resistant traditional Korean patterns to stone slabs used in landscape flooring and buildings has been launched and is drawing attention.
Stone products manufacturer Art Stone Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Myung-sook) is the only company in Korea manufacturing and supplying 'Traditional-Pattern Stone Slabs,' which feature elegant, distinctively Korean traditional patterns while offering excellent slip resistance and water drainage.
The Traditional-Pattern Stone Slab is a natural stone with traditional intaglio patterns—5㎜ wide and 2–5㎜ deep—embossed onto a flat granite surface. It is a patented pattern-formed stone slab with excellent slip resistance and drainage performance.
Conventional natural stone slabs have the drawback that, when it rains or snows, water pools in the recesses to form a water film or freezes in winter, causing slip accidents. This product improves on those shortcomings, offering 33% better slip resistance and 27% better water drainage.
In addition, its patented manufacturing technology using ultra-high-pressure water minimizes changes in the stone's physical properties, such as cracking, fissures, and reduced strength. Because the product is wet-processed using water, there is no scattering dust, and unlike flame-finishing, which applies heat using oxygen or LPG, the use of water allows producers to work safely—delivering excellent productivity and cost-efficiency. Another advantage is that the use of water makes this a green technology that produces no carbon dioxide. Art Stone explained, "Until now, stone processing has mainly relied on the flame-finishing process because the machinery is inexpensive," adding that "however, the use of high-temperature gas generates carbon dioxide, which contributes to global warming." The company further noted, "The Traditional-Pattern Stone Slab uses ultra-high-pressure water technology with no high temperatures or gas, making it safe and of excellent product quality, and the ultra-high-pressure water pump is a state-of-the-art industrial technology introduced from overseas."
In particular, the Traditional-Pattern Stone Slab applies patterns designed from traditional Korean motifs, expressing the excellence of our culture, and presents a graceful appearance when assembled and installed. The product is available in lattice, royal, comb, and wave patterns, enabling a variety of visual effects.
Art Stone explained, "The Traditional-Pattern Stone Slab has slip resistance performance 1.82 times better than the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's standard, and the traditional lattice-pattern product has 26.5% better slip resistance than a standard flame-finished product," adding that "furthermore, the flexural strength of the traditional lattice-pattern product is 16% better than that of flame-finished products, and its slip resistance after freeze-thaw cycles is 28.76% better than flame-finished products."
The Traditional-Pattern Stone Slab is used mainly as flooring for sidewalks and roadways. It is installed at building entrances, wheelchair ramps, sidewalk paving, ramp paving, landscape paving, tourist sites, walking trails, apartment sidewalks, fountain floors, bathrooms, and restrooms. When applied to bathhouse and fountain floors and restrooms, the elderly and children can use the facilities safely without slip accidents.
