Hankuk Glass, a leader in Korea's glass industry, has officially launched its fire-resistant glass 'CONTRAFLAM' in Korea and continues to emphasize the importance of firefighting materials and safety glass that can minimize casualties.
Launched in 2015, Hankuk Glass's 'CONTRAFLAM' is an insulating fire-resistant glass that blocks not only flames, smoke, and gas—like non-insulating fire-resistant glass—but also the transfer of heat in the event of a fire. With its powerful thermal insulation performance, CONTRAFLAM blocks the transfer of flames, smoke, and heat for 30 to 120 minutes in the event of a fire, securing ample evacuation time and minimizing casualties. Unlike conventional fire-resistant glass, it has a structure in which tempered glass is laminated in multiple layers, providing excellent mechanical strength and resistance to breakage from thermal shock. It has been applied to landmarks around the world, including Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France, and the Opera House in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In addition, Hankuk Glass was the first in Korea to obtain 30-minute, 60-minute, and 90-minute certifications for insulating fire-resistant curtain wall structures. Through its CONTRAFLAM curtain wall, which prevents the spread of fire to adjacent buildings caused not only by flames but also by heat, the company provides solutions that can ensure the safety of citizens within fire districts. A fire in a densely built-up fire district can potentially escalate into a major disaster causing significant casualties, so an insulating fire-resistant curtain wall structure—which prevents the spread of fire while realizing a modern building image—can be the best choice for preserving both the beauty and safety of urban areas.
