KD Woodtech (CEO Hong Tak) has launched a new maintenance-free ‘Silkwood Petrified Wood’ product that applies new technology allowing it to be used outdoors with confidence.
‘Silkwood Petrified Wood’ is an exterior building material, characterized by its ability to design exterior walls with a modern, contemporary sensibility. In particular, ‘Silkwood Petrified Wood’ offers high thermal insulation and heat retention, making it possible to complete natural buildings, and because it is made from a sustainable material, it releases phytoncides, the scent of the forest.
As an exterior material exposed to the elements throughout all four seasons, the choice of finishing treatment is extremely important for wood. ‘Silkwood Petrified Wood’ is a material that overcomes the difficulties of maintaining exterior wood. Its main advantage is that a petrifying agent whose primary raw material is silica (SiO2) is infused into the wood and treated so as to remain semi-permanently, requiring no separate maintenance for about 10 years. In addition, applying OrganoWood water repellent after construction is complete makes maintenance even more convenient and tidy.
The newly introduced ‘Silkwood Petrified Wood’ material uses knot-free white pine or okoumé solid wood, and its designs are configured separately as ▲Channel Siding 01 ▲Channel Siding 02 ▲Channel Siding 03 and ▲Decking. The siding is released in a 17×130×3600㎜ specification (adjustable within a range of 2700–3600㎜), and the decking in a 28×120×3600㎜ specification. In terms of color, the solid wood’s color and texture, treated with a milky petrifying agent, continuously changes to a silver-gray over time, allowing you to create a distinctive yet beautiful natural building.
In addition, the construction method is very simple and has been well received by workers. The product comes in a solid-wood louver form with stoppers for spacing and wings that can be slotted in. On a wall where insulation and waterproofing have been completed, you set up a joist frame and fix the material in place with a dedicated elastic adhesive (Lexbond wood elastic adhesive) bonding and nail-gun work.
